In the year 1806, near a Chinook village close to the mouth of the Columbia River, 10-year-old twins Miriam and Moses, children of a white trader and Chinook Indian mother, find a wild cat and must decide what to when an odd stranger wants them to it to him so that he may offer it as a sacrifice.
